The leisure centre, a great green lung
Set in the Oise’s loop, the Cergy-Pontoise leisure centre spreads 250 hectares of water and meadows. Supervised swimming in summer, sailing, paddleboarding, treetop climbing, cycle paths: everyone finds a way to move. Families spread out on the lawns, athletes keep looping around. A picnic shared by the water, at golden hour, offers a gentle setting for a first encounter.
The Axe Majeur, an open-air artwork
Designed by artist Dani Karavan in 1980, the Axe Majeur is a three-kilometre monumental work descending from central Cergy to the Oise. Twelve stations punctuate the route: a belvedere tower, Place des Colonnes with its twelve white pillars, an esplanade, a red footbridge over the motorway. A walk together along this axis is an original excuse to talk about art and perspectives.
Cergy-Village and solar clock
To the north, Cergy-Village has kept the charm of a Paris-region hamlet: Saint-Christophe Church, cobbled lanes, a solar clock and a few quiet terraces. From the belvedere, the view over the Oise loop and the Axe Majeur is magnificent. On Lyad, Cergy members share their favourite spots; it is up to you to find someone to walk down towards the Oise with.
